Whether you are a P plater or a truck driver, your licence is important to you, your family and your livelihood. If you have received a notice suspending your licence, you may be able to appeal it.

What is a licence appeal?

A licence appeal asks the court to review a suspension or another decision affecting your licence. The court can confirm the decision, change it, or set it aside, depending on your circumstances.

What does the court look at?

Every case is different, but the court will usually consider:

  • your driving history
  • the circumstances of the offence
  • your need for a licence, including for work, study or caring for family
  • your character, shown through references

How to prepare

Good preparation makes a real difference. William will tell you exactly what to gather, but it often includes:

  1. a letter from your employer if you drive for work
  2. character references from people who know you well
  3. a copy of your driving record
